7. Assessment catalog v1

Shipped packs are forkable starting points. Each is written to OrgDiagnostic item standards, construct-tagged, and pilot-tested for timing and reliability. None is presented as "the one true model." Firms fork, rename, reweight, and relabel. Items drawn from published academic scales are labeled published_scale with their source and usage terms; everything else is labeled orgdiagnostic_authored_pilot until the firm validates it on its own data.

7.1 Timing model

Estimates used by Methodology Studio and reported on every form. Calibrated after each engagement against observed medians.

Targets: census 12–18 min; executive short form ≤ 9 min; frontline ≤ 8 min (design target 6).

7.2 Item standards

  • One idea per item. No double-barrels. Grade 6–8 reading level (frontline ≤ 6).
  • Behavioural and observable where possible: "In the last month, my manager…" over "My manager is…".
  • 15–20% reverse-coded items in census forms; none in frontline forms (comprehension cost is too high).
  • Every item tagged: construct, reading_level, validation_status, sensitivity, translation_key, frontline_safe.
  • Open-ends always prompted and time-bounded: "Give one example from the last 30 days."
  • Sensitive items (conduct, harassment-adjacent, health) route to higher text-k and cannot be shown to client managers.

7.3 Packs

Counts: D = dimensions, P = practices, Items = census / short / frontline. Minutes are mobile estimates from §7.1.

7.4 Pack 1 detail: Organizational Health & Effectiveness

The flagship. The nine outcome dimensions follow the widely used organizational-health vocabulary. Practice definitions and all item wording are original to OrgDiagnostic; firms rename freely.

Dimension (outcome) Practices (3 each) Census items
Direction Shared ambition · Priority clarity · Line of sight to my work 7
Leadership Decision quality · Coaching & development · Visible role-modelling 7
Accountability Role clarity · Commitments kept · Consequences follow performance 7
Coordination & Control Operating rhythm · Cross-unit handoffs · Risk & control discipline 7
Capabilities Skills for the strategy · Talent pipeline · Process excellence 7
Motivation Meaningful work · Growth path · Fair recognition 7
Innovation & Learning Ideas from the front line · Learning from mistakes · Knowledge flow 7
External Orientation Customer insight · Market & competitor awareness · Partner ecosystem 7
Work Environment Trust & candour · Operational discipline · Speed & autonomy 7

Each dimension = 1 outcome item + 3 practices × 2 items. Total 63.

Scale: 5-point frequency ("Never" to "Always") for practices; 5-point agreement for outcome items. Primary metric: frequency_pct. The short form keeps the 9 outcome items plus 21 practice items selected in pilot by item-total correlation and driver contribution; in short form, practices are reportable only where both items survive, and every dimension remains reportable.

Mobile timing, census: 63 items × 8 s (8.4 min) + 3 open-ends (4.5) + ~1 routed probe on average (1.0) + video (2.0) + demographics (0.7) + intro/submit (0.75) ≈ 17 min. Respondents who skip video: ≈ 15 min.

Open-ends:

  1. "What should the leadership team stop doing? Give one example from the last month."
  2. "What is one thing that works here that others should copy?"
  3. "If you could change one decision process, which one, and why?"

Routed probes (shown only to respondents scoring the practice in the bottom band): Priority clarity, Role clarity, Consequences follow performance, Cross-unit handoffs.

Video: "Describe a recent week when priorities conflicted. What happened?" (60 s, optional).

7.6 Psychometric QA shipped with every pack

  • Pilot: ≥ 300 respondents across ≥ 3 organizations before a pack is labeled orgdiagnostic_authored_pilot.
  • Reliability target: Cronbach's α ≥ 0.70 per practice with ≥ 3 items; ≥ 0.80 per dimension.
  • Item-total correlation ≥ 0.30; items below are flagged in Studio for revision.
  • Timing: observed median within ±15% of model.
  • At every wave close, Studio recomputes α and item-total correlations on the firm's own data and shows drift. After ≥ 5 engagements and ≥ 2,000 respondents a firm may mark its fork firm_validated with a generated technical note (reliability, factor structure summary, norms).
